How do I know if I can get a reimbursement?

Reimbursement for insurance

It is important to distinguish 2 occupations:

  • SFP psychologist-psychotherapist, also called psychotherapist for short.
  • SFP psychologist

The SFP (Swiss Federation of Psychologists) is a guarantee of quality since to be affiliated with it, you must have at least a master’s degree in psychology.

Current situation

Since 1st July 2022, the services of psychotherapists can be reimbursed by basic insurance (LAMal) on medical prescription, once the deductible is reached.

Psychotherapists must have an RCC number for this. Psychotherapists can join this system by requesting their RCC number or decide not to be reimbursed by basic insurance and not request a RCC number.

SFP psychologists cannot UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be reimbursed by basic insurance and they DO NOT have an RCC number. They can be reimbursed by supplementary insurance. It depends on the insurance (some accept and others do not) and for those who accept it depends on the policy holder’s contract.

If you decide to consult with me:

  • With complimentary insurance: contact your complimentary insurance and ask if it will reimburse SFP psychologists and if yes, if you contract include this prestation.
  • Without complimentary insurance: sessions will be at your expenses.

If you are being asked for my RCC number, it is because the interlocutor has not understood that I am an SFP psychologist and not an SFP psychologist-psychotherapist.

If you are told that I am not recognized, it is because the person has not understood that I am an SFP psychologist and that they consult a list of psychologists-psychotherapists.
